I grew up in a suburb of Detroit when the area was booming. I created these highly textured surfaces by layering medium on boards; painting and digging into the surface with blades and other sharp tools. As I worked on the series, I realized the spaces were cities and towns I visited or lived as I was growing up--where I went to summer camp, the place I attended college, the sweet town where we vacationed as a family.
